I do research at the intersection of environmental economics, development, and international trade

My research focuses on land use change as a social and environmental phenomenon. 

I look at the the institutional and socio-economic drivers of deforestation, the effectiveness of policies to halt it. 

I combine causal identification methods and spatial general equilibrium models to understand what works to protect biodiversity without compromising, even improving, the living conditions of the rural poor.
